Cause of death data is one of important evidences to develop health plan for adolescents. The objective of the study was to identify pattern cause of death among adolescents in Vietnam, 2008. The results showed that injury was main cause of death among adolescents (64.4 percent). The leading causes were traffic accident (37.1 percent) and drowning (14.2 percent). Males had a significantly higher traffic accident rate than females (41.7 percent vs. 25.6 percent; P 0.05). Mortality rate of traffic accident of the group with 18-21 years old (49.3 percent) was higher than that of other groups (p 0.05). In conclusions, traffic accident and drowning were main causes of death among adolescents in Vietnam. Prevention programs are needed to implement with the collaboration of many organizations to reduce morbidity and mortality of injury among adolescents.
