Prinzmetal's variant angina is a spastic angina, a rare case of coronary disease. In clinical practice, the diagnosis and treatment of variant angina have different characteristics from the other forms of coronary diseases. The patients may have typical episodes of chest pains with ST elevation or depression, which can be seen on ECG trace. The diagnosis depends on clinical criteria and/or provocative tests. The patients with Prinzmetal's angina may have bad prognosis due to cardiac arrythmias such as the third degree of A-V block. ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tarchycardia or cardiac arrest. Calcium channel blockers and nitrates can be administered to the patients and they may have not experienced any further episodes of chest pains.
