Objective: To describe the anatomic features of the superficial thoracic arteries. Method: A descriptive study of 60 breasts (30 cadavers) in Anatomy Department of The Pham Ngoc Thach university of medicine and The university of medicine and pharmacy at HCM city from July 2011 and September 2012. Results: 60 breast: 42 breasts women - 18 breasts men, the mean age is 66 (range: 21 91) years old. The prevalence of the superficial thoracic arteries are 80 percent. The mean diameter are 1,55mm. They lie beneath the pectoral muscles. Most of the superficial thoracic arteries gives the major muscle perforators to the breast. The direct branches are used to locate to inferolateral quadrant of the breast. 80,7 percent the muscle entering points are in the circle of 2,5cm radius (distant from 11cm lateral to midline and 6,5cm below the sternal notch) or 84,2 percent ones are in 3/16 range. Conclusions: The superficial thoracic artery has 4 variations of the origin. The lateral mammary arteries are two patterns: direct branches and perforator ones. Two kinds of division: basing on the circle or region 3/16 based on the width of the major pectoral muscle.
