Atria fibrillation is common complication and important cause of heart failure and mortality in hyperthyroidism patients. Objectives of the study were to specify clinical, ECG and echocardiography features of AF and risk factors of AF in hyperthyroidism patients. The results showed that the average age of AF patients is 56.3; male/female ratio is 1.14/1; 20 percent has hypertension and 33.3 percent has heart failure; 20 percent is paroxysmal AF and 80 percent is persistence AF; average ventricular rate is 106 bpm; 40 percent has had arrhythmia or = 5 months. Echocardiography finds significant difference in left atrial size but not with ejection fraction. Risk factors of AF in hyperthyroidism are age 40 (OR = 6.08), and male gender (OR = 3.5). In conclusions, AF occurs most in male patients at aged 40; 20 percent is paroxysmal AF; 40 percent has had arrhythmia or = 5 months; 33.3 percent has heart failure. Main risk factors of AF in hyperthyroidism are aged 40, and male gender.
