Purpose: To access the efficacy, safety, predictability and stability of the Femto LASIK surgery. Methods: In a prospective study, 201 eyes of 101 patients with myopia, with or without astigmatism underwent Femto LASIK and flap creation with the VISUMAX femtosecond laser and ablation with the MEL 80 excimer laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec) and the Allegretto Wavelight excimer laser (Alcon). Mean age was 25.26 years (range: 19 to 43 years). Mean preperative spherical equivalent refraction was 5.48 + or - 2.96 diopters (range: -14.25 to -0.13 diopters). Result: At the 3 months postoperative examination, the mean postoperative spherical equivalent refraction was 0.07 + or - 0.33 D. The uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) was 0.019, the efficacy was 0.98 and the safety was 1.02. 99 percent of eyes were within + or - 100D. Complications were limited to one case of suction loss, and no other complication was noted during 3 months. Conclusion: The first report using the VISUMAX femtosecond laser in 201 eyes of 101 patients in Vietnam shows the same high efficacy, safety, predictability and stability as the use of LASIK but without complication in operation.
