
Alcoholic cirrhosis is common in Vietnam and it accounts for 20 percent of the causes of cirrhosis. This research investigated the use of herbal medicines such as Silymarin, Chophyton, and Fortec for cirrhosis treatment. XG1 solid tablet has been studied on acute toxicity and sub-chronic toxicity. It was used to treat for patients with alcoholic cirrhosis at Child - Pugh B stage. Initial results indicated that XG1 tablet reduced the liver' enzymes excluding ALT, AST and GGT from 68.46 +/- 48.27 to 41.81 +/- 20.5 U/I, from 140.06 +/- 60.11 to 68.56 +/- 50.22 U/I and from 604.87 +/- 45.8 to 139.84 +/- 114.67, respectively. There were 63.33 percent of patients who were transferred from cirrhosis at Child - Pugh B stage to Child - Pugh Astage. The liver fibrosis reviewed, via Fibroscan index after 1 month of treatment decreases from 15.87 +/- 2.32 to 9.25 +/- 2.81. In conclusion, XG1 tablet could be used to treat for patients with alcoholic cirrhosis at Child - Pugh B stage.
