
Background: Humeral nonunion is a common complication of treatment of, humeral shaft fracture. It affects greatly on working ability and cause disability. Fixation of the nonunion site with compression plate was chosen in this research. The objective is to find the advantages and disadvantages as well as the result of this method to provide an operative option. Objects: Patients older than 16 years old with humeral nonunion came and treat at upper limb ward in Hospital for Traumatology and Orthopedics. Methods: This is a prospective research in 72 patients from 612002 to 1212006 with a treatment protocol. DCP was chosen to open reduction and internal fixation. Follow up time have a mean 38 months range from 18 to 54 months. Result was evaluated using L.E. Gayet and Muliers scale. 82 percent patients have excellent and good result, 15.3 percent have fair result, 2.7 percent have bad result. Conclusion: With the results the authors conclude that operative treatment of humeral nonunion with DCP is a method with promised result and should be choose. The cost is low and DCP plates are available in Vietnam. This method can be widely use in any hospital with orthopedics ward.
