Herpes zoster, commonly known as shingles and also known as zona, is a viral disease characterized by a painful skin rash with blisters in limited area on one side of the body. Electro - acupuncture is of reduce pain and anti-inflammatory effects. This study aims to evaluate the effect of Electro-acupuncture treatment on herpes zoster. There're 75 patients divided into two groups (37 patients composed of group 1 were treated with Electro-acupuncture; and 38 patients of group 2 with Acyclovir). 54.06 percent of group 1 have good result, 32.43 percent are quite good and 13.51 percent are average. The analgesic efficacy decreases from 6.67 +/- 1.30 points down to 1.27 +/- 1.42 points. The skin recovery time are 8.57 +/- 3.58 days. Whereas the results of group 2 is 57.78 percent good, 30.55 percent quite good and 16.67 percent average. The analgesic efficacy decreased from 6.54 +/- 1.32 points down to 1.31 +/- 1.68 points. The skin recovery time are 8.36 +/- 3.90 days. Based on this study, the authors may conclude that electro - acupuncture is an efficient treatment of Herpes zoster.
