
This is a cross-sectional survey aiming at assessing knowledge, attitude and practice of using condom for HIV prevention among female sex workers (FSWs) in Haiphong City in 2011 in order to update data and to improve effectiveness of intervention programs in Haiphong. Female sex workers in 4 inner districts of Haiphong that includes Le Chan, Hong Bang, Ngo Quyen and Hai An districts was recruited in the study through the peer education system. The survey results from interviewing 262 FSWs, with mean age of 27,3 years-old, showed that the proportion of FSWs that have good knowledge of using condom during sex intercourse with clients was 96.6 percent; 81,3 percent using condom regularly with their clients while 0,4 percent still incompletely using condom during cliental sex Intercourse. Most of FSWs (98,9 percent) understand that using condom with clients will help to reduce infection risk. However, about 11,4 percent FSWs respond that they may consider money being more favorable than their health. The communication activities need to consider to change messages to get a stronger impact on preventing sexual transmissible diseases among FSWs in Haiphong.
