
The study was carried out in Bolikhamxai province, Laos in 2010 to investigate the data on the knowledge and practices on the intrapatrum and postnatal care in Laotian mothers with children under 2 years old. Results: The data showed that Laotian mothers in Bolikhamxai province had low understanding and knowledge about intrapatrum and postnatal care for their.children. Most of these mothers did not understand the danger signs occurred during labor and after delivery. Only 59 percent of the mothers knew about first breastfeeding time within the 151 hour of birth. Many mother knew about the practices of intrapatrum and postnatal care. Only 54.7 percent of the mothers gave birth in a health facilities, 56.3 percent of the mothers received help by the healthcare stuffs, 56.1 percent of the mothers breastfeed their babies the first time within the first of of birth, and 25.3 percent of the mothers came back for a check-up within 42 days after giving birth. Conclusions: Most mothers in Bolikhamxai province, Lao did not understand intrapatrum and postnatal cares to to take care of their children and themselves properly.
