
Objectives: To acess the knowledgeand practice forward the managerment of medical waste at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Hai Phong city in 2012. Method: Cross-sectional study interviewing all hospital staff (n=667) and 400 patients at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital. Result: percentage of good knowledge among medical staffs (84 percent) is higer than among hygiene workers (53.1 percent). The percentage the trained medical staffs with good knowledge (81.3 percent and 89.8 percent) was higher than trained hygiene group (13.7 percent vers 2.4 percent). Most of of medical staffs (95.6 percent) and hygiene workers (89.8 percent) knows the effects of diseases transmission. Patients guided by medical staffs reached a higher rate of practice than unguided patients (71.1 percent vs 21.9 percent). Conclusion: Knowledge on waste management of medical staffs is related to training. The percentage of the medical staffs who knowed classifying wastes is 92,2 percent. The percentage of patients trained is 71 percent. Practice rate is higher among patients who interested in the hospital hygiene rules than among those who were not (69.2 percent vs 17.6 percent).
