Type 2 diabetes mellitus is characterized by insulin resistance, lack of insulin sensitivity, leading to hyperglycemia. The insulin resistant pathogenesis is assoctation to the proinflammatory cytokines, such as TNF-alpha that played an important role in pathogenesis of the disease. In this study, the authors investigated the correlations of blood TNF-alpha level and body physical index and blood lipid indices in patients with type 2 diabetes. The results showed that a positive corelation was found between blood TNF-alpha levels and body weight and BMI of the patients, and blood triglyceride, total cholesterol, fasting blood glucose level and percentage of HbA1c. An inversely correlation was also found between serum level of TNF-alpha and HDL-cholesterol.
