
A cross-sectional descriptive study aims to define the relation between the factors of water sources, household latrines and hygienic behaviors on child care of the mothers/main caregivers with the status of under-5-child nutrition. The study was conducted in 6 provinces (representative for 6 ecological regions) including Dien Bien, Nam Dinh, Ha Tinh, Ninh Thuan, Kon Tum and An Giang provinces with a total sample size of 2869 households. The study findings show that: 1/ There were a statistical relation between the underweight/stunting malnutrition rates and the factors: the status of sanitation status and pollution risk of main living water sources of households; types of latrine and atrines attaining standards on construction, operation and maintenance. 2/ There was a relation between the underweight/stunting malnutrition rates in children and some hygienic behaviors of the mothers on child care: hand-washing with soap at specific times; how to select and buy food; how to clean food; how to use and maintain food; how to keep children clean.
