Experimental effects of the extracts from Heishunpian, Baifupian and Aconiti on the liver and kidney functions were studied in rabbits. Each separate individual extract, at the daily oral dose of 60 and 300mg/kg body weight in a course of 4 weeks on end, no changes were observed in the plasma levels of AST, ALT, bilirubin, albumin, cholesterol, and creatinin in rabbits. After 28 consecutive days' administration of the extracts, no morphologic damages were seen on macroscopic organs and microscopic kidney images; but, on microscopic liver images, the liver cytolysis at various levels was seen in the group of rabbits given 300mg/kg body weight per day.
