The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between hip pain and imaging characteristics of AVN of the femoral head on the MRI. Materials and methods: 116 patients with 215 AVN of the femoral head were diagnosed by Specific Disease Investigation Committee criteria (2001). Result: 174/215 (80.9 percent) symptomatic hip joins, 72.4 percent hip joins with severe pain. Pain rate was highest In late stage of the disease and in class D on MRI. 70 percent hip had necrosis lesion area of the femoral head over 30 percent. 97.5 percent subchondral radiolucency hips and 98.3 percent collapsed hips that had symptom. 112 (88.9 percent) hips showed bone marrow edema and 92.9 percent joint effusion on MRI had severe pain. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that there Is a correlation between hip pain and imaging characteristics of AVN of the femoral head on the MRI at early stage of the disease (p 0.05).
