
Research on health care for elderly people is a very imperative and important as the elderly proportion of Vietnam are increasing. Moreover, there are not any research on knowledge, behavior and the need of ealth care of the elderly in mountainous area in Khanh Hoa province. This cross-sectional study was conducted with the study sample including 1404 persons aged around 60 years in Khanh Vinh district interviewed by questionnaire. The results: The proportion of the elderly who have good knowledge was medium (56.6 percent), while their behaviors was low level (36.7 percent); 40.5 percent of elderly assessed themselves their health as unhealthy; 79.6 percent of the elderly have poor-diets; 52 percent admitted to have at least one disease at a rate of 1.6 patients/people, mainly noncontagious diseases, cardiovascular disease still has the highest rate with 22.1 percent hypertension; 12 percent of the elderly have limited living or self-cleaning activities, 95.3 percent of elderly people chose commune health station as their primary care, and commune health station was still the best choice if the elderly could choose their treatment place with the most common reason is closer to home. Most elderly people prefer treatment with model medicine.
