Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis affecting more than 2 percent of the population. This disease may be associated with an increased morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular events, metabolic syndrome, serum lipid abnormalities..., especially in those with a severe and long duration of psoriasis. Objectives: To compare the lipid profile in psoriatic patients with non-affected individuals. Method: A case control study was performed in 80 patients with psoriasis and 80 sex and agematched healthy individuals. Psoriasis was diagnosed on clinical and histopathologic criteria. The lipid profile, including serum level of triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDLc and LDLc were measured in both groups. Results: The serum triglyceride were significantly higher, and serum HDLc was significantly lower in patients with psoriasis (P = 0,03; 0,0009, respectively) . Conclusion: It is necessary to do early screening and treatment of dyslipidaemia in patients with psoriasis to prevent the atherosclerosis and its complications.
