Objective: To investigate the situation and clinical features of perniosis at National Hospital of Dermatology-Venereology (NHDV). Method: this is a cross-sectional descriptive study on 141 patients with perniosis at NHDV from March, 2011 to February, 2013. Results: Perniosis affected mostly on women (85.8 percent) and young people (71.6 percent of them were 10-29 years old). It was common in November to May and its peak was in January (51.1 percent), there was no patient in summer and in autumn. Patients who were students or pupils were 53.9 percent, ones who were farmers were just 0.7 percent. Symptoms of perniosis were pruritus (100 percent), erythematous or purple swelling (71.4 percent), pain (64.3 percent), blister and infection (21.4 percent). Lesions usually involved hands or feet (14.3 percent and 28.5 percent respectively), both hands and feet (57.1 percent). Conclusion: Perniosis was common in cold and damp months, affected mainly on young women, the diagnosis of perniosis was usually based on clinical ground and the history of cold exposing; severe patients need to be tested about connective tissue diseases.
