
A study was conducted on 405 Ede ethnic children aged from 10 to 12 months, consisting of 205 male and 200 female children. The study aimed at determining the rate of children infected with hookworms and changes of red blood cell indexes in those children. The results showed that the rate of children infected with hookworms was 47.41 percent. The most infected children were 3 to 5 yearS old. The rate of anaemia children among those infected with hookworms was 22.40 percent and that rate in children uninfectecd with hookworms was 16.57 percent. The hemoglobin content in female children infected with hookworms was lower than that in female children uninfected with hookworms. The hematocrit in female children infected with hookworms was lower than that in female children uninfected with hookworm.
