Objectives: To evaluate the possibility and effectiveness of transferring the vitrectomy in some cities and provinces. Subjects and methods: the study was conducted in 6 ophthalmic institutions with 7 trainees: Ha Noi eye hospital; 108 hospital, Hai Phong eye hospital, Thanh Hoa eye hospital, Nam Dinh eye hospital, Phu Tho eye department. After the 3 month training course at VNIO (including lectures, wet lab practice, hand~n training) all trainees returned to their home hospital to complement the trained technique under the supervision of qualified surgeons from VNIO. The result was evaluated after 2 years. Result: all 7 students have successfully completed the course (with first-class honors). 5 over 6 provinces (except Nam Dinh) have successfully complemented the vitrectomy technique with good result, low complication rate. So that the transferring has been done to 5 ophthalmic facilities with 6 well trained vitrearetinal surgeons. Conclusion: The vitrectomy technique is transferable to some regional ophthalmic facilities with sufficient human and infrastructure resource.
