
Aims: to Describe the clinical characteristics of the eyes in CRS patients those have been operated cataract in Vietnam National Institute of Ophthalmology within one year and relevant factors. Patients and methods: 26 cataract and CRS children were operated in pediatric department - VNIO. They also have IgM positive to rubella virus. Results: 46.2 percent male, 53.8 percent female. 100 percent of their mother was having rash in the first 3 months of their pregnancy 100 percent of children examined is over 4 months old of which 76.9 percent cataract in both eyes, 23.1 percent in one eye. In the both eyes cataract patient group, 60.9 percent has microphtalmia, 75 percent has nystagmus In the one eye cataract patient group, 3.9 percent has strabismus. Overall, 100 percent pupil dilates poorly. 57.69 percent has heart disease, 11.54 percent is deafness and 7.69 percent has disorder nervous system. If the mother has rubella within the first four weeks of pregnancy, there are 81.8 percent of children having cataract together with heart disease, deafness and disorder nervous system. Conclusion: CRS patients usually have cataract in both eyes, associated with microphthalmia and nystagmus. Other symptoms including heart disease, deafness and disorder nervous system.
