Total laminectomy for removal of intradural spinal tumors had been used widely, but the patient can have some postoperative complications such as kyphosis, spinal instability and persistent back pain. In this study, the authors evaluated three patients who have intradural tumors at lumbar spine (two cases have schwan noma and one case has Ependymoma). The authors chose hemilaminectomy for removal tumors to preserve musculoligamentous attachments and posterior bony elements as much as possible. Postoperative neurological symptoms were recovered and the patients had not any complications at follow up 6 months. Conclusion: The hemilaminectomy is less invasive and safe for the treatment of intradural tumors at lumbar region.
