Aim To evaluate the results with laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Viet-Tiep hospital. Patients and methods: From September 2006 to August 2011 at Viet-Tiep hospital, 50 cases of colorectal diseases following surgery were reffered prospectively to this study. There were 33 males and 17 females, mean age 51.8 years. Indications for laparoscopic surgery included rectal cancer (43 cases), right colon cancer (6 case) and rectal prolapse (1 case). Results: There were 27 abdominoperineal resections, 6 right colectomy, 12 low anterior resection with stapled anastomosis, 1 mesh rectopexy and 4 Hartmann procedure. The mean operative time was 205 min. There were no operative mortalities. One postoperative fistula on the membranous urethra required plastic suture. The mean hospital stay was 8.5 days. Conclusions Laparoscopic surgery appears to be a safe and effective option in the management of colorectal diseases. Further validation of the oncological results is recommended.
