Objectives: To evaluate the early outcomes of laparoscopic gastrectomy for cancer at Viet Duc hospital. Material and methods: Retro-observational study of 253 patients (adenocarcinima) underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy from Sept. 2006 to Sept. 2013. To define the post-operative complication rate and analyze the related factors. Results: The total number of patients at the beginning of this study was 253 patients who were planned to be operated on by laparoscopic surgery but during the operation, 12 patients were converted to open surgery due to complicated lesions or technical problems. The conversion rate was then 4,7 percent. Thus, only the remaining 241 patients would be used for final analysis, induding 142 males (58,9 percent) and 99 females (41,1 percent). Mean age: 57,7 + or - 12,76 years (range 26-90 years). Two hundred nineteen (219) within 241 patients (90,9 percent) underwent distal gastrectomy and 23 patients underwent total gastrectomy in which 5 were extended total gastrectomy. D2 Iymphe nodes dissection were performed for all patients. The mean operative time was 214,3 percent 46,55 mn (135-360). The postoperative complication rate encountered in 5,4 percent. No postoperative mortality. The mean time of hospital stay was 7,8 percent 2,22 days (4-22). Conclusions: Laparoscopic surgery would be the safe and effective option for the treatment of early and advanced gastric cancer.
