Background: Hyperhomocysteinemia is an independent risk factor of coronary artery heart diSease (CAHD) arid atherosclerosis in a normal population. Elevated Hcy levels have been associated with higher blood pressure, however, it is still not clear! in predialysis population in Vietnam. Elevated homocysteine -hcy levels were also ell reported in chronic renal failure patients because the thl renal function is a major determinant of serum t-hcy n~ levels. The aims of the present study were to nc determine the homocysteine (Hcy) level, and to S' evaluate its association with renal function and hypertension in predialysis (HD) patients. Material and method: Clinical data and blood chemistries bE were assayed in 63 prepatients, serum Hcy were measured. Results: Plasma Hcy level in prepatients was significantly higher in normal controls (26.39 + or - 10.15 micromol/L, 9.56: + or - 1.92 micromol/L (p0.0001 and serum Hcy level was negatively cotrelated wiith GPR (glomerular filtration rate) but positively correlated with hypertension. But Hcy did not show significant correlation with sex and age.
