Objectives: to compare 2 techniques of glaucoma treatment: trabeculectomy with intraoperative 5-FU application and trabeculectomy with postoperative 5-FU injection. Patients and Methods: Controlled clinical trial including 113 high risk Glaucomatous eyes (primary glaucoma in young patients and previous failed filtering surgeries) which were distributed into 2 groups (1) 5-FU application; (2) 5-FU injection. 5-FU subconjunctival injection was done. within the first 15 days after the surgery when IOP went up and/or some sign of fibrosis of the bleb was noted. Results: VA was improved along with the success rate of IOP in 100 percent eyes of 2 groups. With time, mean IOP was higher in group 1 (5-FU application). Complimentary 5-FU injections were associated with improved status of filtration bleb. Conclusion: additional 5-FU injections were needed in both groups. Intraoperative 5-FU application with postoperative injections gave equivalent result in comparison with first day 5-FU injection with postoperative injections.
