
Objective: To investigate overweight-obesity and dyslipidemia status in adults in cities and rural areas. Subjects and methods: A crosssectional descriptive study was conducted among 2420 people including 1,162 men and 1,258 women from 25 to 74 years old, divided into five age groups in two regions: Cities including Hanoi and Hochiminh city and rural areas including the Northern delta, the Mekong River Delta. Anthropometry and concentrations of Triglyceride, Total Cholesterol, High Density Lipoprotein-Cholesterol (HDL-C), Low Density Lipoprotein-Cholesterol (LDL-C) were used to evaluate overweight-obesity and dyslipidemia status. The result: In the cities, there were 18.6 percent of people having Body Mass Index (BMI) 2: 25 that is significantly higher compared with the one of the rural areas which is 9.6 percent. The percentage of people in the cities having high cholesterol level in blood was 44.3 percent; high level of blood triglyceride was 49.3 percent; high LDL-C was 43.5 percent, that are higher compared with those of the rural areas that were: 27.3 percent; 39.3 percent and 21.4 percent respectively (p0,001). The prevalence of people with low HDL-C is 34.8 percent and 33.3 percent in the cities and rural areas respectively (p 0.05).
