
Objective: A survey on virus HBV, HCV, HIV, syphilis and malaria infection among volunteer donors in Cho Ray Blood Transfusion Center from Jan 2009 to Dec 2011. Method: Retrospective and cross sectional descriptive study. Results:The infection rate found among 202,194 units of blood donated as follow: HBV infection makes up 6.66 percent, HCV: 0.87 percent, HIV: 0.52 percent, syphilis: 0.21 percent. The highest HBV infection rate (7.02 percent) and HIV (0.56 percent) is found in people whose age from 26-40 . The highest HCV infection (1.34 percent) is found in age 50 and that of syphilis belongs to group of age from 41-50 (0.56 percent). Group of HBV and HCV infection is defined to be highest in the target group of police-soldiers (7.22 percent and 1,57 percent respectively).The highest of HIV infection belongs to employee officials (0.38 percent). The highest syphilis infection (0.31 percent) is found in other target group. Conclusion: There are differences in the infection rates compared among a variety of target groups: students, employee - officials, police - soldiers and others, however the HBV and HCV infection rate is highest. The infection rates also varies by age and localities. The surveys also indicates the infection rates decreases by year to year.
