
In 2009, the world suffered from the flu pandemic caused by new H1N1 strain. In Vietnam, the first case of pandemic A/H1N1 2009 occurred in late May 2009. Until to the end of year 2009 there were over 12,000 cases and 61 deaths. However, these data did not reflect the real situation of the flu epidemic in Vietnam. The study was camed out, based on sentinel influenza surveillance ' activities at Xuan Loc district hospital and based on 30 clusters sampling survey in Xuan Loc. Results has showed that, during 9 months, from 612009 to 3/2010, the positive rate with influenza virus was 28.49 percent, with A/H1N1 pandemic 2009, A/H3, B was 15.9 percent, 7.54 percent, 5.02 percent respectively. ILl rate in Xuan Loc was 27.1 percent, ILl episode per patient was 1-9. The estimated prevalence of A/H1N1 pandemic 2009 in Xuan Loc distric, Dong Nai province during the outbreak, from 6/2009 - 3/2010 was 4.821 episodes/100, 000 population.
