Images contain different visual information at distinct spatial frequencies. Thus. The spatial frequency has effects on processing of visual stimuli of visual subcortical areas and also visual cortex. However, the role of distinct spatial frequencies in responses of the superior colliculus to visual stimuli remains unclear. In the present study, the study used images of human faces at different spatial frequencies including a broad spatial frequency, a low spatial frequency and a high spatial frequency in a delayed non-matchingto sample task to investigate the neural activity of the superior colliculus in response to images of human faces at distinct spatial frequencies. The result showed that .therewere some neurons which are sensitive to the low spatial frequency and some anothers sensitive to the high spatial frequency. This result suggests a crucial role of the superior colliculus in processing of not only coarse visual information, but also fine visual information in the visual perception of visual subcortical pathway.
