The Middle East respiratory syndrome is clinically similiar to the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome - SARS, but the tool to differentiate the two diseases is unavailable at the moment. Objective: The aim of this study is to build up a simple screening procedure for beta-coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Material and method: Synthetic RNA pieces derived from the archived genome of betacoronarivus (MERS-CoV) provided by the European Virus Archive (EVA), Invitrogene vector NTI-11.2 software and bispies recruited from Tran Hung Dao University Hospital. Reverse transcriptase followed by polymerase chain reactions (PCR): Result: The two primer sets of SHPT108ERS-CoV-L, SHPT108ERS-CoV-S were optimized to allow to detect the presence of one betacoronavirus RNA copy out of 1,000 ABL RNA copies without any mis-amplification from MERS-CoV free samples. Conclusion: The simple screening procedure for beta-coronavirus (MERS-CoV) was successfully designed.
