
Increasing the rate of voluntary blood donation is one of the essential requirement to ensure safe and efficient blood supply, especially the repeatedly voluntary donors. The authors conducted a study on the features of blood donors in Hai Phong during 2 years (from 2010 to 2011) through 24,387 registration from. The results are as follows: The rate of successful blood donation was 82.92 percent. The main groups of voluntary donors are students with the highest rate (71.32 percent), so the majority of blood donors aged between 18-25 (77.03 percent). The proportion of male voluntary blood donors was 59.65 percent, while female accounted for 40.35 percent. Voluntary blood donors who weighed more than 50kg accounted for 76.15 percent; while 24.85 percent was just under 50kg. The rate of repeated blood donors was 31.76 percent. The rate of people who registered in blood donation did not donate was 25.28 percent. Conclution: The rate of blood donation from voluntary blood donors is very high, however, the majority of them are students and pupils.
