The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microsurgical result of the 105 giant intraanial meningiomas (dimension 5 cm) that were operated at the No.108 Central Military Hospital from January 2005 to December 2010. The results of this study allowed to conclude as follows: Microsurgery has brought about good results in the surgery treatment for giant intracranial meningiomas. The I, II Simpson grade was 91.5 percent; the good improved result in longterm was 76.2 percent. Preoperative embolization decreased significantly the intraoperative blood loss and reduced the surgical resection time. Preoperative embolization should be taken for giant intracranial meningiomas with the effectiveness of more than 70 percent. The appropriate duration is 7-10 days post-operatively. Preoperative embolization and intra-operative ultrasound (sonopet or sonosurg) helped to facilitate the removal of the tumor and reduced the neurological complications related to the surgical process.
