Abstract

Purpose: The pineal gland consists of many types of tumors which have different pathology. The inside of these tumors are germ cell tumors to account for a high percentage, and it is particularly sensitive to radiation. Benign tumors are treated solved only by micro- surgery. Therefore, to determine the pathology of the pineal gland helps the physician to use a reasonable dose for each type of tumor. Methods: To combined retrospective and prospective studies of 58 patients at Cho ray Hospital from 01/3002 to 04/2012. Results: 60.6 percent germ cell tumors, astrocytic tumors 15.16 percent, meningiomas 6.06 percent, pineal gland tumor cells 6.06 percent, ependynoma 6.06 percent, negative 6.06 percent. The total radiation dose was 54Gy for germ cell tumors, 2Gy dosage/day, during 27 days of radiation. Tumor is not germ cell tumor that total radiation dose of 60Gy, 2Gy dosage/ day, and radiation time is 30 days. Results after radiation, MRI, CT Scan were: 51 percent cured, 43.1 percent reduced injury, 5.9 percent no change. After patients have treated, they may received their results following: working 19.6 percent, going to school 35.3 percent, stop working and studying 17.6 percent, self- activity 17.6 percent, and needed help 9.8 percent. Conclusion: Pineal region Tumors which has popular pathology that is germ cell tumor. The characteristic of this tumor is that it is very sensitive to radiation. After 27 days of radiation treatment with radiation dose of 54Gy, the tumor completely disappeared. To identify pathology before radiation helped reduce complications caused by radiation. On the other it is to provide us with a reasonable treatment plan, reducing mortality by complicated diseases.
