
The study was conducted in Nghe An province from October to December 2012. Objective: To investigate the rate of household and commune health center using clean water, hygiene toilets and the effectiveness of communication, training communicators on clean water and environmental hygiene (EH) in the period 2009-2012 in Nghe An province. Subjects: Specialized officers in EH of the districts, head of commune health centers, specialized officers in EH of the communes, communal president of the Women's Union, village caregivers, documentations and reports. Methods: Crosssectional descriptive and retrospective studies were employed in this study. Results (1) The rate of households using hygiene toilets increased from 30.2 percent in 2008 to 40.15 percent in 2011, still lower than the program objectives (70 percent). Ratio of commune health centers used clean water and hygiene toilets increased from 70.3 percent in 2008 to 80.1 percent in 2011, 20 percent lower than the target of NTP2 program. (2) There were 17 percent of communes reached the target 65 percent of households using hygiene toilets. (3) The results revealed that the training activities, workshop on raising awareness of staffs and residents had implemented on time which contributed to succeed of the program. Recommendation: Strengthening the propagation of the loan program targeted to household cleaning. Training local residents on clean water and environmental hygiene should be implemented, especially in rural and remote areas.
