
Aim: Evaluating the local effect of cream Berberin 0.1 percent on chronic wound. Method: A prospective controlled cohort study was performed on 60 chronic wound patients who were treated by either cream Silvirin 1 percent (group A) or cream Berberin 0.1 percent (group B). All patients hospitalized to Department of Wound Healing, NIB from May 2013 to February 2014. Result: Local wound manifestation of group B were better than group A in term of wound exudate, peri-wound and local inflammation. Average length of hospital stay in group B were shorter than in group A (29.2 +/- 12,5 vs. 38.3 +/- 11.7 days respectively). In both groups, common isolated wound bacteria were P.aeruginosa, S.aureus and K. pneumonia.. Changes of local wound histopathology in group B was better than in group A: reduced inflammatory cells, increased the amount of fibroblast. Conclusion: Cream Berberin 0.1 percent has positive effects on chronic wounds.
