To evaluate the complications and classify the difficulty of mandibular wisdom tooth extractions in third-year students at the Vietnam Military Medical University for the academic year 2022-2023. Subjects and methods: A total of 151 students from the Vietnam Military Medical University were clinically examined and digital periapical X-rays were taken to assess complications and the difficulty level of mandibular wisdom tooth extractions. Results: Complications from mandibular wisdom teeth were relatively low, with 10 out of 151 cases accounting for 6.62%. The complications related to mandibular wisdom teeth included dental caries, pulpitis, and gingivitis. Classifications according to Parant, Pederson, and an augmented version of Pederson by Mai Đình Hưng indicated that the most common difficulty level was moderate. The levels of less difficult and very difficult extractions were less common. Conclusion: The study provides evidence on the complications and classification of difficult mandibular wisdom tooth extractions in third-year students at the Vietnam Military Medical University for the academic year 2022-2023, serving as a basis for clinical treatment orientation.
