The purpose of this study was to identify the acute toxicity of hoang kinh extract and assess the effect of hoang kinh extract on the rabbits liver and kidney function as well as the rabbits liver and kidney structure. Research results showed no acute toxicity at the highest dose of hoang kinh (620.25g/kg/day). The median lethal dose (LD50) also had not been yet identified when experiment was performed on white mouse. Rabbits were dosed continuously for 8 weeks at 3.2g/kgl per day (equivalent to the normal human dosage, calculated based on the coefficient 4) and at 9.6g/kg/per day (equivalent to 3 times of the human dosage), followed by a wash period of 8 weeks. Results showed that there was no effect on organ growth and the hematological function of the liver; no change on liver and kidney function as well as the micro and macro morphology of the rabbit s liver and kidney cells.
