The study aims to evaluate in vitro the effects of Shellac F varnish on human dentin permeability reduction as compared to Duraphat and Isodan. The results show that all: All materials resulted in a significant decrease in dentin permeability. The highest decrease was obtained with Shellac F after 24h (76.3 + and - 28.1 percent) and with Isodan after 7 days (77.6 + and - 23.6 percent). The hydraulic conductance reduction with Duraphat was almost the same both at 24h and 7 days. No significant difference in the hydraulic conductance reduction was found among the materials at 24h (p 0.05). However, the difference was statistically significant after 7 days (p 0.05). Thus, the application of Shellac F significantly decreased the dentin permeabitity. This effect was comparable to Duraphat and Isodan at 24h and still efficient at 7 days.
