
Method: By a descriptive study conducted in 614 first and third year nursing students in Ha Noi Medical College in 2014. Results: The overall prevalence rate of caries was 78.8 percent: In which in female was 80.4 percent, in male was 66.7 percent; in 1st year student: 79.8 percent; in 3rd year student: 77.9 percent. The prevalence rate of caries in students living in urban areas (85i5 percent) was higher than that in students living in other areas. The prevalence rate of caries in students with parents who work as a housework and a civil servant (88.2 percent and 83.3 percent, respectively). Over 80 percent of students with caries were untreated. The overal prevalence rate of gingivitis was 61.4 percent; In 1st year students, this ,rate was 58.3 percent; In 3rd year student, this rate was 64.5 percent; The prevalence rate of gingivitis was highest in age group 20 (67.8 percent), in female students was 65.2 percent and in male student was 60.9 percent. The prevalence rate of gingivitis in students with parents who work as a housework and an agricultural worker (64.7 percent and 61. 9 percent, respectively). Recommendations: It is necessary to strengthen health education and dental hygiene for students in schools.
