Thực trang, nhu cầu và các điều kiện cần thiết để phát triển đào tạo bác sĩ gia đình ở Việt Nam

The goal of this study is to assess the situation, the needs and the necessary conditions for the development of family medicine training in Vietnam. Results: Based on the results, family medicine training was needed to improve the quality of the primary health care in the population. However, currently family medicine was only short term training as only a slightly more than 500 family doctors have been trained so far because the training capacity was still limited. A long-term plan for family medicine secondary training is needed to improve the situation and met the need of a growing population. The data also showed that about 90 percent of the doctors at primary care level would like to be trained further. However, only 29 percent of the doctors preferred family practice training. Conclusions: More family practice should be promoted, and the roles and functions of a family physician should be clearly defined. A long-term training strategy and policies to support the doctors at primary level are necessary for development of family practice training.
