EV71 is the important pathogen in Hand-FootMouth diseases (HFMD). This study on the role of EV71 in HFMD in children hospital, 2012 aimed to describe the distribution of EV71 genotype and the relationship of EV71 with clinical severity of HFMD in children. RT-PCR technique has been used to detect EV and EV71 from 796 throat swab of HFMD children. 64.8 percent of patients were positive with EV and 36.6 percent with EV71. 56.4 percent EV infected children were positive to EV71. Subgenotype C4 was the most prevalent (95,5 percent). Majority of HFMD children were at IIa level.
