Bong võng mạc là bệnh lý nặng trong nhãn khoa, một trong những nguyên nhân quan trọng gây mất thị lực. Đai độn củng mạc là một trong các phương pháp được sử dụng trong phẫu thuật bong võng mạc nhằm điều trị bệnh lý này. Thiếu máu bán phần trước (Anterior segment ischemia - ASI) là một biến chứng hiếm gặp nhưng khá nghiêm trọng sau các phẫu thuật bán phần sau. Tại Việt Nam, phẫu thuật đai củng mạc điều trị bong võng mạc nguyên phát đã được thực hiện từ những năm 1960 nhưng các trường hợp biến chứng liên quan đến Hội chứng thiếu máu bán phần trước đều chỉ được báo cáo đơn lẻ.
