
From 2003 to 2010, in the framework of the National Food Security Program, a number of multisectoral activities have been implemented in Bac Can - a pilot province. The study is to evaluate the impact some year-multi-sectoral activities (2003-2010) on household food and nutrition security status. A repeated cross-sectional study was conducted in 15 communes randomly selected among 30 baseline communes. The results showed that the proportion of underweight, stunting among children under 5 years old were on the decrease. Food expenditure, food accessibility, especially animal original foods and fruits increased. Basically, the household pre-harvest food shortage has been solved in Bac Can province. The population's dietary intake has been improved in terms of both quantity and quality. However, proportion of households with low energy intake still have maintained at 8.4 percent, while there were nearly 50 percent of households with daily energy intake above 2400 kcalo.
