
Background: Inguinal hernia is a common disease in general surgery, it was treated by Lichtenstein tension-free hernioplasty and total extraperitoneal (TEP) procedure. It is also application in the worldwide. Study objectives: The results of use polypropylene mesh by Lichtenstein and TEP for inguinal hernia. Materials and method: Prospective study of 198 patients with 219 inguinal hernias hernioplasty by Lichtenstein and TEP frorn June 2009 to November 2012 in Hue Central Hospital. Results: Lichtenstein: the mean age 69 + or - 11, primary hernia 87.9 percent, recurrence hernia 12.1 percent, hematoma 2.1 percent, seroma 0.7 percent, wound infection 0.7 percent, recurrence rate 1.8 percent. TEP: the mean age 59 :t 19, primary hernia 92.3 percent, recurrent hernia 7.7 percent, hematoma 3 percent, seroma 11 percent, wound infection 0 percent, conversion 7.7 percent, recurrence rate 1.4 percent. Conclusions: Lichtenstein tension-free hernioplasty and TEP for inguinal hernia are valuable and effective, shorter surgical time, low complications post-operation and low recurrence rate.
