Cord lining epithelial cells (CLECs), that are on the amniotic membrane covering the umbilical cord, have been isolated and studied recently. These cells were proved to be multipotent stem cells and have been differentiated into some specific cells (such as keratinocyte, hepatocyte and especially corneal epithelia). Many studies showed that CLECs may be the promised cells source for using in treatment of ocular surface diseases.
