
Backgroud: Appendicitis is the most common acute surgical condition of the abdomen. The most serious complication of appendicitis is rupture and can lead to peritonitis or abscess. Appendix abscess may choose non-operative management with antibiotics. This study determines the indication and result of non-operative management for appendix abscess. Methods: The medical records of all patients who are diagnosed appendix abscess between 4/2005 - 4/2010. Results: 235 patients, 135 males and 100 females. Median age 31 + or - 5 years, after treated by non-operative management with antibiotics (cephalosporin of the third generation combine metronidazole) gave good results. Conclusion: Appendix abscess can be treated successfully by non-operative management with combination antibiotics. This method of management is safe and effective.
