
In the U.S the elderly over 65 years account for 36/293 milions and increase to 70 milions in the year 2030. In Viet nam the elderly are over 6 milions of habitants and the increasing is around 2 milion each year. Digestive 'hemorrhage is an importance issue and frequency in the elderly. The study realized on 224 pts or = 60 year old in Central hospital of Can Tho city from 4/2009-4/2010. Aims of study: Determining the severe factors and evaluation the prognosis factors in upper digestive hemorrhage of the elderly. The results: - Over 70 year old, the ratio of severe hemorrhage: 70.6 percent, much more higher than those of 70 year old: 29.4 percent (p 0.001); - In coming hospital status: P 120 per minute, arterial pressure 90mmHg, that is the high risk of severity and mortality (p 0.01); - The images of endoscopy: + Severe bleeding are most common in gastric bleeding 59.8 percent (p 0.001), the most common cause is peptic ulcer 75percent (p 0.001); + Forrest I that had much more bleeding than those of Forrest II and III: 76 percent vs 56 percent and 37 percent (p 120 per minute, the co-morbility and rebleeding have related to high mortality.
