Objective: To evaluate clinical features, radiological diagnosis and microsurgical outcome of lateral ventricular tumors. Method: This retrospective study was made at Viet-Duc Hospital on 42 patients with lateral ventricular tumors from February 2007 to February 2012. Results: The mean age is 21.5; the female/male ratio is 1.6/1; and the mean interval between the onset and diagnosis is 32 months. Clinical manifestations included headache - 97.6 percent, cognition impairment - 92.8 percent, visual impairment - 64.3 percent, paradoxal headache - 26.2 percent, hemiparesis - 16.7 percent, and papillary edeme - 100 percent. Radiology resulted in canxification - 28.6 percent, intratumoral hemorrhage - 11.9 percent, and ventricular dilatation - 76.2 percent. Microsurgical outcome revealed 85.7 percent as the good outcome, the mortality rate of 9.5 percent, and the complete tumor removal of 91 percent on control radiology. Conclusion: Clinical manifestations of lateral ventricular were often ambiguity. On arrival, the patients have typically raised intracranial pression. Diagnosis is based on scanner and IRM. Microsurgery is effective in removal tumors and often gets good outcome.
