
Objective: Clinical characterization, imaging and histopathological creteria of patients with mediastinal tumors were operated at Viet Duc hospital. Methods: 80 patients with mediastinal tumors from 8/2010 to 8/2013 treated at the Department of Thoracic Surgery. The study parameters such as age, sex, occupation, clinical features, imagings and postoperative histopathology were collected and processed using SPSS 16.0. Results: The mean age was 39.8:J:17.5; sex ratio male/female 1.2; clinical manifestations accounted for 90 percent, the most common symptom was chest pain 73.8 percent. Tumor found on chest X ray was 77.6 percent; anterior mediastinal tumor was 60 percent; radiopaque tumors 85.3 percent on CT; average tumor size: 7.71 cm; malignant tumors: 43.8 percent; open surgery 68.8 percent; completely resectjon of tumors 83.8 percent; operative complications 11.2 percent, mortality 1.3 percent. Conclusions: Mediastinal tumor was very atypic in clinic as in histopathological feature. Diagnosis based mostly on X ray and CT. Surgical treatment was principal by its oncologic criteria and low morbi-mortality.
